Magnus was fishing Lower Floors on the Coachwynd Pool, aided by boatman Johnathan Mackereth, who netted and safely released the 11lb hen fish. The fresh springer was caught on Magnus's first cast using a Loomis NRX 14ft rod, Danielson reel and was casught on a 1 1/4" Cascade conhead tube fly. The presentation of the Tweedside Trophy for the first Springer caught on the Tweed was presented at Tweedside Tackle in the evening of opening day, which was well attended by fishers and boatmen. The day was one of the best opening days on Tweed in over a decade and everyone was very upbeat about about the 2012 season.
