The Season Ahead
The start of the new season is nearly here, 1st February, 2013. The weather at the moment is bitterly cold with snow. During the closed season the river has been in flood most of the time but with this cold snap it will have cooled the water temperature which should slow fish down. A few kelts have been seen splashing around and we have heard reports of large numbers of seals at the bottom of the river. We have plenty of new products in stock for the start of the season, increasing our range of the Ballistic Spey lines with which we now hold a good stock of all models in all available sizes. These lines have really taken off and are very popular. As before, we still stock the Monic running lines and a selection of Nextcast heads and lines – again gaining in popularity over here. Ken Sawada hooks were new to us last season and have been received very well. All of these products fit in well with our range of Burkheimer rods and Saracione reels as well as the many new fly patterns in for the start of the season to lure those elusive springers!! Make sure you pack your thermals if fishing on opening day or pop in and see us and pick up a new set before venturing down to the river – it was a little “fresh” this morning -4!! Who will win the trophy this year? Where will the fish come from? Who know’s? Fingers crossed the river is fishable on opening day!!

Tweedside Tackle Attended Rio’s Open Day
Rio had one of their ‘open days’ at the Tweedswood beat on Tweed. Tim and Caroline attended the day and thoroughly enjoyed the day where they saw, Simon Gawesworth give a brilliant slide show on the Rio Lines and let all those that attended have a cast with the various lines. Guidflyfishing were also in attendance… on the day. The weather pretty much held out but when the heavens did open, it was back to Tweedswood’s ‘luxurious’ hut for refreshments! Thanks Kevin for the great lunch and drinks. Still raving about the fab’ hut
Simon Gawesworth came into Tweedside Tackle after they finished on the water. Tim and Simon have known each for years so it was a great chance to catch up later at the shop and to go over the Rio lines we stock.

Visit from Patagonia
Last week we had a visit from our new Patagonia rep’ Steve Fisher who was accompanied by Bill Klyn from Patagonia USA. They were here to show us Patagonia’s latest cutting edge products. Tim, Steve and Bill are pictured below looking at the latest Patagonia Boot with Aluminium barred soles, which provide the finest traction in the most demanding wading conditions. What a ground breaking boot. The boot is designed so that new bars may be fitted as and when the attached ones wear out. Patagonia have also produced ”crampons” which may be added to your current wading boots, whatever the brand! If these sound like something you would be interested in veiwing, we have a pair at the shop for you to see.
There were lots of great new products to choose from for later in the year, great colours and great fabrics. Very much encompassing lifestyle and not just aimed at fishing. The range varied from clothing to accessories, including waterproof gloves for fishing, ultra lite wading jackets, waders, nano puff, jackets and gilets and much more.

New Sculpture
Tweedside Tackle have received another fish sculpture from Jason Sweeney to display in our fishing window. We always look forward to receiving Jason’s new creations.
Jason who is based in the Scottish Borders is well known for his steel sculptures, he creates a wide variety of animal sculptures inc, fish, hare, birds and more. All his sculptures start out as a sheet of steel, but by heating and beating the metal into to its shape, which is a slow process and can take months to complete, he produces a unique and individual sculpture. He creates his sculptures as both exhibition pieces and private commissions
